Learn about how we store your game data locally on your device. We do not use cookies.

1. We Do Not Use Cookies

TetrisOnline ("we," "our," or "us") does not use cookies or similar tracking technologies on our website onlinetetris.org (the "Service"). Instead, we use local storage technologies to store your game data directly on your device.

This Data Storage Policy explains how we store and manage your game information locally on your device, without the use of cookies or server-side tracking.

Important: Since we do not use cookies, you will not see any cookie consent banners or notices on our website.

2. How We Use Local Storage

We use local storage technologies (not cookies) for several purposes to enhance your gaming experience:

  • Game Settings: To remember your game preferences and control settings
  • Game Progress: To save your high scores and game statistics locally
  • Player Identity: To maintain a unique player identifier for your device
  • Performance: To optimize game loading and performance
  • User Experience: To provide a seamless gaming experience across sessions

Note: All this data is stored locally on your device and is not automatically transmitted to our servers. Only when you choose to upload your scores to the leaderboard is any data sent to our servers.

3. Types of Local Storage We Use

3.1 Browser Local Storage

We use the browser's localStorage API to store your game data. This data persists until you manually clear it or uninstall your browser.

3.2 No Third-Party Storage

We do not use any third-party storage services, analytics cookies, or tracking technologies. All game data is stored locally on your device using standard browser storage APIs.

3.3 Server Storage (Optional)

When you choose to upload your scores to our leaderboard, only the following data is sent to our servers: your score, game mode, and anonymous player identifier. This is entirely voluntary and only happens when you explicitly choose to upload your score.

4. No Third-Party Services

Unlike many websites, we do not use third-party services that would set cookies or track your behavior:

4.1 No Analytics Services

We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any other analytics services that would track your browsing behavior or set cookies on your device.

4.2 No Advertising Networks

We do not display advertisements or use advertising networks that would track your behavior across websites.

4.3 No Social Media Tracking

We do not embed social media widgets or tracking pixels that would allow social media companies to track your visits to our website.

6. How to Clear Your Local Data

6.1 Browser Settings

Since we don't use cookies, you won't find our data in your browser's cookie settings. Instead, you can clear local storage data through these methods:

  • Clear all browser data (this will remove data from all websites)
  • Use browser developer tools to clear specific site data
  • Use browser settings to clear site-specific storage

6.2 Browser-Specific Instructions

  • Chrome: Settings > Privacy and security > Clear browsing data > Advanced > Local storage
  • Firefox: Settings > Privacy & Security > Clear Data > Site Data
  • Safari: Preferences > Privacy > Manage Website Data
  • Edge: Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Clear browsing data > Storage

6.3 What Happens When You Clear Data

Clearing your local storage data will reset your game progress, high scores, and preferences. However, if you have previously uploaded scores to our leaderboard, those will remain on our servers.

7. No Consent Required

Since we do not use cookies or tracking technologies, we do not require your consent for data storage. All game data is stored locally on your device under your control.

The only time we ask for your permission is when you choose to upload your scores to our leaderboard, which is entirely voluntary.

8. Updates to This Policy

We may update this Data Storage Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons.

When we make changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this policy. We encourage you to review this policy periodically to stay informed about how we handle your data.

9. Your Rights

Since all your game data is stored locally on your device, you have complete control over it:

  • Right to access your locally stored data through browser tools
  • Right to delete your local data at any time
  • Right to control what data (if any) you upload to our servers
  • Right to request deletion of any scores you've uploaded to our leaderboard
